VOLUNTEER ROLE Active promotion of MhIST and its services in a voluntary capacity using a variety of methods e.g. leaflets drops, staffing display/promotion stands, forming links with other organisations/agencies, delivering presentations etc.

Promoting how becoming a volunteer helps not only service users but also the volunteers own personal and professional development.
Source new avenues to explore in relation to recruitment using a variety of means
i.e. internet searches
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS There are no specific qualifications required; however volunteer publicity & promotions volunteers should be confident and relaxed in what they do. They should demonstrate a friendly and approachable manner and be able to pass on information to people who are interested in MhIST, its services, volunteering opportunities and mental health awareness in general, either as a lone worker or working alongside other staff. As such this opportunity would ideally suit enthusiastic, chatty, outgoing sorts of people with good communication skills both directly and on the telephone.
MORALS. Here at MhIST it is essential that all volunteers have a positive outlook and approach to people who identify with mental health issues or problems.
Above all else we require people to be approachable, warm, friendly, non judgemental and empathic, and to be able to abide by our rules on confidentiality.

INDUCTION MhIST delivers its own in-house training which covers:
An overview of MhIST, the organisation, MhIST policies and procedures, MhIST services, mental health awareness (overview), boundaries, confidentiality, perceptions and stereotypes, active listening, empowerment/disempowerment, personal safety, communication, anti-discriminatory practice and support options for all volunteers.
